Opened in 1939, Los Angeles Union Station is an architectural gem in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. The historic ticket concourse includes a restored 110-foot-long ticket counter crafted from American black walnut, massive bronze chandeliers, and towering 43-foot windows. This space is not typically open to the public. The station features a hand painted, stenciled acoustic ceiling and a quarry tile floor with a mufti-colored marble runner. This tour will offer attendees a behind-the-scenes look at this treasure. When it opened in May 1939 as the Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal, it consolidated rail service from Union Pacific, Santa Fe, and Southern Pacific Railroads into one terminal station. It is the last of the great railway stations built in the United States. It was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1980. The station is the major transportation hub for Southern California, serving almost 110,000 passengers a day. The tour will conclude with a tour of the original Fred Harvey Restaurant, which is also not open to the public. Lunch at Traxx Restaurant
